The Franklin University commencement ceremony will be streamed live for those families and friends who wish to watch the ceremony from home.A link to access the live stream will be made available on the Graduation Information page at at the start time of each commencement ceremony promptly. When & Where

  • The 180th Commencement Ceremony will be held Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time

  • Venue: Greater Columbus Convention Center, in the Battelle Grand Ballroom, Columbus, Ohio. 

Who

  • Graduates: 664 students are being honored. 

  • These graduates represent 41 U.S. states and 20 countries. 

  • Also includes those earning undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees. 

Key Figures & Honors

  • Student Speaker: Ronald Treisch. He has experience in law enforcement and is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. 

  • Outstanding Graduation Honorees: Nelson Whitney (Chief of Police, etc.), Malia Schoenenberger, Dr. Joycelyn McCall. 

  • Bailey Award Winners: Dr. Donald DeMoulin and Paul Sweeney.

Preparations & Pre-Requirements for Graduates

  • Application: Graduates must complete a graduation application even if not participating in the ceremony. 

  • Fees: Vary by level of degree. Undergraduate, graduate, doctorate have different fees. 

  • Late Application Period & Fees: There are deadlines; after those, late fees apply. No applications are accepted after the final late application deadline. 

  • Outstanding Balances: All tuition or other balances must be settled by a certain date to be eligible to pick up regalia or participate.

Regalia (Cap & Gown)

  • Regalia is available for pickup at the Paul J. Otte Student Services Center in downtown Columbus. There are specific hours (e.g. weekdays, etc.) for pickup.

  • If not picked up by a certain date before the ceremony, it will be available at the Convention Center 2 hours prior to the ceremony.

During the Ceremony

  • Graduates will process in two single-file lines, according to assigned procession numbers. 

  • The President of the University (Dr. David Decker) will bestow degrees. Each graduate will walk across the stage, shake hands, receive diploma, then return. 

  • The Board of Trustees Chair will formally announce awarding of degrees. 


After or Other Notes

  • Livestreaming & Recording: The ceremony will be streamed live and recorded, so those who cannot attend can watch or view later. 

  • Honors: Latin honors are awarded to undergraduates. Honor cords can be mailed if not attending. 

  • Diplomas: Graduates not attending the ceremony will receive diplomas by mail (approximately two weeks after).
