2025 World Transplant Games – At a Glance

Dates & Venue

The 25th World Transplant Summer Games will take place in Dresden, Germany, from August 17 to August 24, 2025.

Historical Significance

This marks the very first time the Games are hosted in Germany, symbolizing a meaningful milestone for both the event and the country.

Purpose & Impact

Celebrating the gift of organ donation, the Games promote physical activity and health among transplant recipients and raise global awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation.

Participants

• Around 2,000–2,500 athletes from up to 60 nations are expected to participate.

• Open to recipients of life-supporting allografts (e.g., heart, kidney, liver, lung, pancreas), bone marrow transplants, living donors, and donor families.

• Age participation ranges from 4 years up to 80+.

• Petanque

• 5 km Road Race

• Sprint Triathlon

• Squash

In addition to sports competitions, there will be a rich cultural and social program including:

• Opening Ceremony (August 17) in Dresden’s historic city center, featuring cultural performances, dignitaries, and fireworks as part of the city’s annual festival.

• Cultural Evening, where participants can showcase their heritage through music, performance, and traditional attire.

• The heartfelt Circle of Life, an emotional moment of reflection honoring donors and the power of connection.

• Closing Ceremony (August 23), including a gala dinner at the International Congress Center Dresden with awards, performances, and speeches.

Organizers & Support

The Games are hosted by TransDia Sport Deutschland e.V. in conjunction with the World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF).
The WTGF, established in 1978 and incorporated in 2017, is affiliated with the International Olympic Committee and is dedicated to promoting transplant athletics worldwide.

• Registrations are open until June 1, 2025.

• Participants can choose between package options:

  • Lite (self-arranged accommodation, approx. €690)

  • Full (includes accommodation, with simple breakfast at the Games Hub).
